Geotrupes Stercorarius / sculpture / 2017
The dung beetles push a ball of excrement always in the direction of sunrise. When they gets lost, they climb on it and dances in search of the right direction. They lay the eggs in a sphere pushed by them, from which the young ones emerge. The dung ball is a symbol of the sun and new life.
The work was made during the workshop in Zakopane, Tatra at the Władysław Hasior Gallery. Inspired by the city, the region and the artist and his method of assemblage marked by pop culture. Using screws, fibres, wires, metal elements also from his collection, the work of a dung beetle rolling a ball of light was created.
